Scavenging any useful items in order to survive and craft, as well as defending yourself in any way necessary will be a common goal within your travels. With an intriguing story set in a mysterious time, this is definitely one to watch in 2013.

With their smash hit Heavy Rain behind them, Quantic Dream moves forward with the eagerly anticipated Ps3 exclusive Beyond: Two Souls. Staring Ellen Page, this psychological action thriller features many of the same highly polished original story telling you would come to expect from the minds of Quantic Dream. One of the most successful franchises in history is the talk of the town with its long-awaited entry coming in 2013, and it looks and sounds amazing. Grand Theft Auto Five features all the mechanics which make the franchise so successful, and evolves them. Those of you that have missed the madness that was the past few GTA filled months, here is a short rundown of why you should be excited. For the first time in the series history, there will be three playable protagonists which are interchangeable during free roaming and missions. The games map which you run amuck within, is bigger than Rockstar’s former games maps (Red Dead Redemption, GTA 4, San Andreas) combined. There are more modes of transportation than ever before, featuring staggering amounts of Cars, Trucks, Bikes, Boats, Planes, and Jet Skis, giving you plenty of get away options at your disposal. The combat and weapon systems have been given a nice upgrade, allowing for a more realistic and fluid experience. It seems fans just cannot get enough of GTA V, and you better believe when mid 2013 rolls around, that’s all you will hear about as far as gaming is concerned.
Injustice: Gods Among Us
The creators of Mortal Kombat jump back into the arena with Injustice: Gods Among Us, however this time with a DC Comic twist to their patented fighting expertise. NetherRealm Studios brings top of the range superheros and villains together to do battle within famous DC universe interactive locations, like the Batcave or Fortress of Solitude. Combatants currently announced include the likes of Superman, Batman, Flash, The Joker, Green Lantern, Bane, Lex Luthor and many more. Ever had the desire to run around the world and strike a foe with Flash? Or hit an enemy into orbit and back to Earth with Superman? Well wish no longer! Each super move is not only unique and specific to each character…They look amazing. A story mode of some form is also promised to be included within Injustice, narrative as opposed to simple ladder climbing arcade mechanics NetherRealm has used formerly. If you like fighting games, DC comic characters, or both, this is a game should be on your gaming radar.
Luigi’s Mansion 2
The Green Machine returns on the 3ds! Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon follows the original, featuring similar gameplay mechanics previously seen. Although this time around Luigi has improved his gadgets, allowing him to take on several enemies at once while traversing multiple playable mansions on the hunt. The action-adventure sequel is more puzzle orientated than its predecessor, with Toad providing a hand at times during his spooky journey. Expect many of the same fearful Luigi faces, and even some characters from the original may make an appearance! It will be interesting to see what Dark Moon can bring to the table or improve on what we have already seen in the gamecube version.
Remember Me, a Capcom published title, has one of the most creative and interesting plot lines of 2013. In the year 2084, protagonist Nilim is an amnesic ”memory hunter” living in a dystopian time within Neo-Paris. The public is under constant supervision, with the idea of privacy a thing of the past. Memories play an integral role within the game, and in this surveillance society they can be bought, traded and sold just like retail goods. The majority of the story revolves around discovering why her former employer erased her memories and how to reclaim them. Expect to find platforming, combat and exploration elements within Capcom’s futuristic title. Besides the intriguing landscape and plot, heavily customized combos are rewards of experience within Remember Me. This adventure could easily be the surprise hit of 2013.
South Park: Stick of Truth
The classic Role Playing Game as envisioned by the South Park universe. Creators of the series Trey Parker and Matt Stone have provided voices, supervision and an original written story, containing all the quirks and humor you would expect from any episode featuring the colourful cast of characters. You are the new kid in school craving the respect of classmates, especially Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny. As you play the popular town wide live action game, it slowly begins to turn into an epic battle between light and dark forces. The game plays very similar to the imagination land episode, with the idea that gamers see within the characters own imagination that plays out the battle. Although of course not in the way you would expect, such as Cartman emitting a flame out his rear end to damage opponents. As RPG’s do, multiple classes and weapons are available to customise your new kid. But in true South Park fashion, they make you reconsider what is commonplace in the genre (the jew class in particular). Obsidian is heading the development department with their wealth of RPG experience, and with the story also in safe hands I am anxious to see the final humorous product.
The sixth installment in the Tom Clancy Splinter Cell franchise comes in the form of Blacklist. Following the events of the previous entry, Splinter Cell: Conviction, the President shuts down the corrupt Third Echelon and orders all their current operations cease. Sam Fisher is appointed commander of the highly skilled new operative group the “Fourth Echelon”, who perform various tasks set by the President around the globe. The plot thickens when a group of 12 issue a horrifying ultimatum called The Blacklist, a countdown of increasingly damaging terrorist attacks on the U.S. Step into the shoes of the worlds most skilled agent, as you do everything in your power to prevent the countdown reaching zero. Freedom is excessive in Blacklist, as you are given permission to break laws in order to achieve your goal. Ubisoft’s product Splinter Cell: Blacklist features many of the same faces and stealth tactics, although this time around Sam doesn’t have to hide in the shadows as much anymore. With fluid and aggressive combat, as well as the franchise defining stealth, lets see what Sam can do with his law-abiding shackles loosened.
Ubisoft Montreal presents this surprise hit of E3 2012. Watch Dogs is an open world action-adventure game centred around the ability to hack into electronic devices and take information, control, or destroy them. Gamers will play as anti-hero Aiden Pearce, a highly skilled hacker who can use any device connected to the city’s Central Operating System as a weapon in his escapades. Pearce uses both his hacking skill, and his physical combat skills in order to be an effective vigilante with his own agenda and code. Watch Dogs is set in an alternate reality of Chicago, one of the cities which houses a supercomputer known as a “CtOS” (Central Operating System). This CtOS contains a plethora of information regarding all the residents and locations in the city, which Pearce will use to his advantage and constitutes the main feature of the game. Cause a traffic jam by hacking the traffic lights, raise a bridge to slow pursuers, tap phone calls to learn about your target, the options are limitless in both virtual and physical space. Watch Dogs is innovative with both its hacking gameplay and its attempt to try something never seen before. Don’t sleep on this one when its release date rolls around!
