the-last-of-us

This Naughty Dog developed Ps3 exclusive is one of the most anticipated of 2013, winning numerous awards at its presentation at the 2012 E3 convention. The upcoming survival horror action-adventure game is set in an post-apocalyptic jungle wasteland, following the spread of a deadly fungal infection which has killed millions. The story follows two survivors, Joel an adult male and Ellie a young girl, as they travel across the now overgrown America watching out for each other. Danger is ripe, in order to survive they must avoid the infected human/plant hybrids and other hostile survivors alike. The Last of Us provides gameplay which presents shades of an updated uncharted in its third person look, but with desperation being a key element and emotion as you play. Scavenging any useful items in order to survive and craft, as well as defending yourself in any way necessary will be a common goal within your travels. With an intriguing story set in a mysterious time, this is definitely one to watch in 2013.

One of the most successful franchises in history is the talk of the town with its long-awaited entry coming in 2013, and it looks and sounds amazing. Grand Theft Auto Five features all the mechanics which make the franchise so successful, and evolves them. Those of you that have missed the madness that was the past few GTA filled months, here is a short rundown of why you should be excited. For the first time in the series history, there will be three playable protagonists which are interchangeable during free roaming and missions. The games map which you run amuck within, is bigger than Rockstar’s former games maps (Red Dead Redemption, GTA 4, San Andreas) combined. There are more modes of transportation than ever before, featuring staggering amounts of Cars, Trucks, Bikes, Boats, Planes, and Jet Skis, giving you plenty of get away options at your disposal. The combat and weapon systems have been given a nice upgrade, allowing for a more realistic and fluid experience. luigi

The Green Machine returns on the 3ds! Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon follows the original, featuring similar gameplay mechanics previously seen. Although this time around Luigi has improved his gadgets, allowing him to take on several enemies at once while traversing multiple playable mansions on the hunt. The action-adventure sequel is more puzzle orientated than its predecessor, with Toad providing a hand at times during his spooky journey. It will be interesting to see what Dark Moon can bring to the table or improve on what we have already seen in the gamecube version.

Remember Me

Remember-Me-Game-e1345505046664

Remember Me, a Capcom published title, has one of the most creative and interesting plot lines of 2013. In the year 2084, protagonist Nilim is an amnesic ”memory hunter” living in a dystopian time within Neo-Paris. The public is under constant supervision, with the idea of privacy a thing of the past. Memories play an integral role within the game, and in this surveillance society they can be bought, traded and sold just like retail goods. The majority of the story revolves around discovering why her former employer erased her memories and how to reclaim them. Expect to find platforming, combat and exploration elements within Capcom’s futuristic title. Besides the intriguing landscape and plot, heavily customized combos are rewards of experience within Remember Me. This adventure could easily be the surprise hit of 2013.

South Park: Stick of Truth

southpark

The classic Role Playing Game as envisioned by the South Park universe. Creators of the series Trey Parker and Matt Stone have provided voices, supervision and an original written story, containing all the quirks and humor you would expect from any episode featuring the colourful cast of characters. You are the new kid in school craving the respect of classmates, especially Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny. As you play the popular town wide live action game, it slowly begins to turn into an epic battle between light and dark forces. The game plays very similar to the imagination land episode, with the idea that gamers see within the characters own imagination that plays out the battle. Although of course not in the way you would expect, such as Cartman emitting a flame out his rear end to damage opponents. As RPG’s do, multiple classes and weapons are available to customise your new kid. But in true South Park fashion, they make you reconsider what is commonplace in the genre (the jew class in particular). Obsidian is heading the development department with their wealth of RPG experience, and with the story also in safe hands I am anxious to see the final humorous product.

Freedom is excessive in Blacklist, as you are given permission to break laws in order to achieve your goal. Ubisoft’s product Splinter Cell: Blacklist features many of the same faces and stealth tactics, although this time around Sam doesn’t have to hide in the shadows as much anymore. With fluid and aggressive combat, as well as the franchise defining stealth, lets see what Sam can do with his law-abiding shackles loosened.
